Therapy FAQs

Have questions about working with a virtual therapist in Massachusetts? You'll find answers to the most common questions below — from how telehealth sessions work to fees, scheduling, and insurance. Don't see your question? Reach out and I'll be happy to help.

  • The consult call is a free 20-minute phone session where we will briefly review what’s bringing you to therapy and how I can help. We will discuss logistical information (e.g. scheduling and fees), and you can ask any questions you may have so that you can decide if working together feels like a good fit.

You’ll leave with options for next steps—whether that be a plan for beginning therapy together or recommendations and referrals if another route is better for you. It’s a low-risk way to see if my therapeutic approach aligns with your needs and values. There’s never an expectation for you to make a decision about moving forward during the call, and I remain available for questions afterwards.

  • Virtual therapy offers the same quality of care as in-person sessions, with the added convenience of meeting from the comfort of your own space, whether that be work, home, or elsewhere. Given my current licensure, you must be in the state of MA at the time of our meeting.

You will need access to a private, quiet location, a device with a camera, and a stable internet connection. Sessions are conducted through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform, and many clients find it just as effective—and sometimes even more convenient—than in-person therapy. I ask that all clients treat telehealth appointments just as they would in-person visits, and limit any distractions so that our time can be as effective as possible.

  • For private pay clients, my rates are the following:

    $165 for a 45-minute session

    $195 for a 55-minute session

I accept all major credit cards and HSA/FSA funds for session fees. Please see additional information about insurance and sliding scale spots below.

  • Yes, I currently accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Harvard Pilgrim, and Tufts Health Public Plans (Direct, OneCare, and Together MA). Please call the number on the back of your insurance card to verify that I am a covered provider for your specific plan to avoid unexpected service issues and costs. Please note that even if I am in-network for you, you may owe a copay or deductible. You can speak directly with your insurance company to learn more about what share of the session cost you are expected to cover.

If I am out-of-network for your plan, I can provide you with all the necessary information and documentation to facilitate reimbursement for my services. For both in- and out-of-network payments, you can utilize your HSA/FSA funds to pay any session fees.

If you have further questions about this, please do not hesitate to reach out to me so that we can discuss them.

  • In an effort to provide accessible and equitable therapy, I periodically offer several sliding scale spots. These are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and are reviewed at regular intervals throughout the year. If this is something you are interested in, please reach out to me directly for more information and to discuss if a spot is available at this time.

  • A typical session with me is 45-55 minutes long and can cover a range of topics depending on your particular goals and stage of therapy. We will work together to find the right session structure to support your needs while honoring the fact that other personal situations may arise from time to time that you wish to explore.

Initial sessions are typically spent completing a full client assessment and history, and setting treatment goals. After this, our sessions focus on exploring stressors, processing emotions, and discussing tools/strategies to support balanced long-term coping patterns aligned with your goals.

  • I try to maintain consistent appointment slots for each client to ensure both our availability and limit disruptions to care. I find it works best to have a consistent weekly or bi-weekly therapy session to find our stride together. It can be helpful to meet weekly at the beginning in order to build the therapeutic relationship faster, but this is not required.

While there can be a desire to meet more than once a week, I cannot offer this frequency outside of very limited exceptions and for brief periods of time. Please notify me in your initial message if this is something you are looking for, so that we can discuss the matter together and I can offer appropriate guidance about how best to move forward.

  • I offer appointments Monday through Friday with a range of morning, afternoon, and evening availability depending on the day. My earliest appointments are 8 AM and my latest are 6:30 PM.

All appointment times are booked on a first-come, first-served basis. I do not hold specific times for those who are not established as clients. If you have specific scheduling needs or requests, please notify me in your initial message so that I can alert you as soon as possible if I can accommodate your request.

  • I understand that some careers or life circumstances make it difficult to commit to a consistent therapy time, and I do appreciate that this can be a barrier to accessing support. I work to maintain a certain degree of flexibility for these clients and offer a range of appointment times throughout the week to facilitate their access to care. Please reach out and let me know more about your scheduling needs and we can determine together if my availability is the right fit for you.

  • I offer individual therapy, and am not able to offer couples or family counseling at this time. However, sometimes it is clinically appropriate and helpful to have a loved one join your therapy session to help them gain a deeper understanding of what you are going through and how they can best support you. If you are curious about this, please let me know, and we can discuss it together on a case-by-case basis.
